Beijing intends to run the Olympic games next year on purely green energy

Beijing announced that it would be supplying 100% clean energy to support the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics procession. The leaders revealed that the 26 venues for these sports would be running on entirely renewable energy. Various energy utilities in China penned contracts with the Olympic venues. These agreements will inform the provision of renewable energy and other electricity details to the fields.

Some of the partisan members of these agreements include the Beijing Jingneng Power Co, China Huadian Corporation Ltd, and the State Grid Beijing Electric Power. All the contracts are geared towards the integration of Smart Grid Planning into the Olympics. Moreover, the program will facilitate the development of new and advanced smart grid technologies and renewable energy production in rival areas, which are Yanqing, Beijing, and Zhangjiakou. The developers will also be creating transmission systems and distribution utilities to ensure that these areas are connected to power systems.

Additionally, the contracts have led to the development of the Zhangbei Renewable Energy Flexible DC Grid Pilot and Demonstration Project. This program will illustrate how smart grids and green energy can be incorporated through mega utilities and events like the Olympics. The head of the second planning division with the Department of Development and Planning of State Grid, Gu Yi, stated that the company is developing an energy internet innovation illustration zone bringing together smart grid, UHV grid, and green energy.

Since Beijing and Zhangjiakou are endowed with resources and landscape advantage, it is possible to roll out clean energy utilities to sustain the oncoming Winter Olympics. Moreover, the State Grid Beijing Electric Power Company will unveil digital technologies like Smart Robots to monitor power utilization in the Winter Olympics.

The clean energy illustration zone in Zhangjiakou will also serve this event to roll out renewable energy production. The zone is an establishment meant to implement the Heibei Renewable Energy Demonstration Zone Development Plan among the other three renewable energy projects running. These programs include the 10GW wind power plan, mega solar power bases, and high-temperature solar power projects. The projects will unveil clean energy potential in 20GW, 24GW, and 6GW levels before the end of this decade.

Beijing also intends on supplying clean energy from the Jibei Power Exchange Platform. This trend is primarily the engineering of the Rules for Market-Based Trading of Green Power in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. The rules demand that the Winter Olympic venues’ infiltration with green energy technologies as the top objective. Moreover, this move will inform the discussion on power prices among the energy developers such that they make it affordable while cutting down on the carbon footprints.
